Hello my dear parents, normally I'm a great blogger, but I've been tied up with family things and haven't had the opportunity to really get to know this format. Please bear with me.
Some things you get to know for next week before we start back to school.
IRI - Idaho Reading Indicator - January 12th - This is the state test that shows areas your child might need extra support from you and me. Yes, you are part of our team! It still reviews letters and sounds as it did in the fall, but Winter and Spring IRI will focus more on reading passages, with the end goal being - 53 words per minute by May.
Sight words - If you continue to work on the sight words, 114 words, your child will have more of a chance of success in reading, as these are high frequency words used in a majority of the texts your child will be reading. If you just work on a few a week, they will have the list mastered by May and be ready to move to the next level. I can't emphasize enough how important these words are to know in a snap. Starting next week, I will be sending you sheets with the words on them indicating which words your child has down solidly. Together, we can do this!
EVENTS: January 12th - IRI Testing - go to be early - eat a healthy breakfast!
